No wonder AGD’s have the highest GPA on campus! Wednesday, Feb 17 2010

Every time I go to the library there is at least one group of AGD’s there, if not more. People always say they see Alpha Gam’s at the library more than anyone else! Especially during finals week!

Tuesdays are Greek day at the pub and all the different fraternities and sororities show up in their letters to have lunch. There are always SO many of us there! Sadly, this past Tuesday I was not there because I had to go home to go to the dentist (horrible, but no cavities so yay!). However, I heard about how a few AGD’s were STUDYING in the pub. Shocking! Earning those grades!

P.s. Thank you for the picture Amber!

Sisterhood: Keychains! Tuesday, Feb 16 2010

Tonight we had our second sisterhood of the semester at the lovely Amber Strieff and Casie Stockings’s house. Katie brought beads and string and everyone made keychains!

Some of my sisters making their keychains!

There were red, yellow, and green beads, our colors, and pearl beads, our jewel, and then alphabet letters. People did a lot of cool patterns with the different colors and made ones with nicknames. It was a lot of fun and I heard a fabulous story. One of my sisters, Kelley Isenberg, had a dream last night that my best friend in the whole world, Brooke, and myself took her car. HAHA! The sad part is if we could, we would. That’s all for today.

Skiouros! Monday, Feb 15 2010

Today, there is no Alpha Gam event going on that I know of, so last night I was thinking about what to write for today’s blog post. The lovely Brooke Abel and I came up with the idea to talk about Skiouros. Yes, the squirrel, our beautiful mascot.

SQUIRREL!

An explanation of the squirrel appeared in a 1915 publication: “… Our little friend, we find, is also nimble and agile—he leaps from branch to branch and accomplishes much progress…to symbolize the spirit that never dies, the spirit of energetic alertness and progress.” The Gamma chapter chose the mascot in 1906. Very interesting. Our leadership consultant Jami told us a FANTASTIC story about squirrels. One day, a member of the chapter she was visiting drove her to the airport. She swerved out-of-the-way of a squirrel running across the road and yelled out, “Sorry sista!” Literally laughed out loud. Funniest. Story. Ever. Pretty much the best mascot ever. So that’s it for today, I will leave you with an Alpha Gam history lesson about Skiouros.

Secret Sister Sunday, Feb 14 2010

Today at our meeting we had our first secret sister exchange of the semester. It was AWESOME. Everyone got baskets or bags with a few things off of a list they had made in a previous meeting that they like with a card and something their secret sister had made them.

A lovely basket. Maybe created by me, maybe not... who knows?

We don’t get to find out who our secret sisters are till the end of the semester and you keep the same girl all semester. The best part is seeing your secret sister across the room getting her basket and LOVING IT. I got a lovely note in mine saying, “Roses are red, violets are blue, you’re my secret sister and I love you!” Is that not adorable? So perfect. Loved it. Sadly, I forgot to take a picture of everyone’s baskets all together. :( There were so many different decorations and gifts and everyone’s was so different! Definitely a fantastic idea and I can’t wait to give my secret sister her next gift!

Our Leadership Consultant Visit Saturday, Feb 13 2010

This past week we’ve had one of our leadership consultants visiting us! It was obviously AMAZING and pretty sure she loved us. She met with each of our officers, went to sisterhoods, lunch at the pub, chapter council, and hung out with our president Kelley!

Our president Kelley and the leadership consultant Jami

When I met with her she gave me a fabulous idea of how to expand my position. By doing what you may ask? Creating an Alpha Gam blog! So without the lovely Jami this blog might not have ever formed! Thanks Jami! It was great to get to hear about other Alpha Gam chapters around the country and her own experience. I learned so much about her! Mostly about her addiction to Jamba Juice, her obsession with blogging and twitter, and how much she loves how creepy my friend Brooke and I are. We’ll miss you Jami! Have fun at SF State and with the rest of your AGD visits!

Exchange with AXiD! Saturday, Feb 13 2010

So today we had our first sorority/sorority exchange; as opposed to our usual sorority/fraternity exchange. We met up and all made Valentines Day cards! Girls made the cutest cards!

AGDs and AXiDs making Valentines!

My card was not at all creative, I used purple paper and pens and wrote a cheesy message inside, while other girls pulled out the big guns with stickers, glitter, cursive, pop out cards, and drawings. Jealous much? I was. It was great to get to spend time with other girls who are having around the same college experience as Alpha Gams are, just with different letters on their chest. I got to talk with a lot of new girls and make new friends. Definitely a FANTASTIC idea Jill!

First Sisterhood of the Semester: Bracelets! Friday, Feb 12 2010

On monday night we had our first sisterhood of the semester. We made bracelets for each other from ribbon and used velcro on each end to hold them together. A lot of girls got really creative!

Some overlapped different colors of ribbon, wrote on them with sharpies or puffy paint, or braided them together. Some classics of the night: “squirrel, please” and “through EHB, be AGD” (who is EHB you may ask? Why EHB is one of our founders, Emily Helen Butterfield! Learn your facts!). It was a great sisterhood to start off the semester! I don’t know about the rest of my sisters, but I can’t wait to see what our sisterhood coordinator Katie comes out with next!

Winter Fun Wednesday, Feb 10 2010

Over winter break, us Alpha Gams just couldn’t stand to be apart. Many of us took trips together and visited our sisters away from Sonoma.

Us in front of The Matterhorn!

I flew down to SoCal one weekend to stay with some of my sisters and go to Disneyland! It was a blast! We got caught in the rain and ended up all buying ponchos to keep dry. 5 loud sorority girls running around in ponchos in Disneyland. Interesting? Yes.

Some of my other sisters took trips too! Another group of AGD’s went to Disneyland, some of us went snowboarding together, and a lot of us met up for lunch. Winter break was great, but I’m definitely ready to be back up at Sonoma with my Alpha Gams!!
